The devotee’s heart overflows with joy as Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra
ascends the chariot.
Every year a moving chariot teaches us values that are always relevant. It’s not only about
devotion but also about the unity and how everyone comes together. Rathyatra never lets us
forget the old traditions like chariot-making, folk art and much more. This festival is also the
symbol of unity in which people of different ages, background and caste come together to
celebrate. They participate in activities like chariot pulling, food distributions, water stalls and
what not! These actions erase discrimination from our society. Apart from that, this festival
does not affect the environment at all, the chariots are made up of wood. Later on the those
woods are used in the temple kitchen to make the Prasadam! And to make the rally look
colourful, people use flower to ensure that the festival is celebrated in a way that does not
harm anyone. With these materials used, this festival also contribute towards the livelihood
of flower sellers, artisans and local businesses. So, in this way, Rathyatra continues to
strengthen the bonds and preserve cultural identity. Rathyatra is not just another festival, it is
a celebration of love, unity and the timeless bond between humanity and divine! JAY
JAGANNATH!
