Seed balls also known as earth balls or nendo dango were rediscovered and popularized by a Japanese farmer, philosopher, microbiologist and agriculturalist, Masanobu Fukuoka in the early twentieth century. He believed that tilling over a large area for cultivation is laborious, destroys the health of the soil and is a waste of time and energy and therefore it became an important aspect of natural farming and conservation.
On 19th September, 2022, St. Kabir High School, Navrangpura organized seed ball making activity to create an awareness about trees and their role in the environment—shelter for birds, carbon sinks, regulators of ground water table, etc.—amongst the students. Members of Sukrut Parivaar Charitable Trust brought the materials and taught students this activity. Mrs. Khusbu Shah gave deeper knowledge about this activity; while Ms. Urvi, a lawyer by profession explained students the process of making and using seed balls; Ms. Amrita shared knowledge about the materials used and Mr. Alay was there as a professional videographer. Thanks to whole team for their efforts and time as a small gesture to save our environment. Students enjoyed a lot making around 2000 seed balls. After moulding, the balls were kept to dry in sunlight; meanwhile they collected the used newspaper to clean the premises and promised to preserve environment in every way possible.
