St. Kabir High School Navrangpura, celebrated Reading Month with great enthusiasm to
promote the habit of reading and to inspire students to become lifelong learners. Through a
series of engaging activities, students experienced the joy of books and discovered the
importance of reading beyond the classroom.
National Reading Day, observed on 19th June, commemorates the birth anniversary of P.N.
Panicker, widely regarded as the Father of the Library Movement in India. The observance
of National Reading Day marks the beginning of Reading Month, encouraging schools,
libraries and communities across the country to foster a culture of reading.
The celebration at our school commenced with the Reading Pledge, where students and
teachers pledged to make reading a daily habit and to appreciate the wealth of knowledge
that books provide. The pledge inspired everyone to cultivate a lifelong love for reading.
A Book Exhibition was organized, featuring an extensive collection of fiction, non-fiction,
biographies, reference books, children’s literature and magazines. Students explored
different genres, discovered new authors and developed an interest in selecting books
according to their reading preferences.
Students enthusiastically participated in Book Review sessions, where they presented
summaries, shared their opinions and recommended books to their peers. These activities
enhanced reading comprehension, public speaking and analytical skills while motivating
others to explore new books.
A special highlight of the celebration was the recognition of our young authors during the
school assemblies. Students who had written stories, poems or books were acknowledged
and appreciated for their creativity and literary achievements. During the assemblies,
teachers also spoke about the importance of reading and how it contributes to personal
growth, academic excellence and character development.
The school also organized newspaper reading activities, enabling students to read and
discuss important national and international news. This initiative helped improve reading
fluency, expand general knowledge and cultivate awareness of current affairs while
encouraging students to become informed citizens.
Reading Month was a meaningful and enriching celebration that reinforced the importance
of reading as a lifelong habit. The diverse activities nurtured curiosity, creativity, confidence
and a genuine love for books. The celebration reminded every student that reading opens
doors to knowledge, imagination and endless opportunities for growth.
“A reader today, a leader tomorrow.”
