On October 24, St. Kabir High School Navrangpura organized a school trip to various old age homes to share the joy of Diwali with the residents. Our objective was to spread love, care, and compassion to those who often feel neglected and abandoned.
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the enthusiastic inmates, many of whom were struggling with debilitating diseases such as paralysis, HIV, and cancer. We distributed essential items, including biscuits, hot water bags, toilet kits, and towels, to bring some comfort to their lives.
The experience was eye-opening, as we witnessed the harsh reality of elders being abandoned by their families, often due to the perceived burden of caring for them. This stark contrast to our own fortunate circumstances filled us with gratitude and humility.
Through this visit, we learned valuable lessons about respecting and valuing our elders, who have contributed significantly to society. We realized the importance of appreciating the blessings in our lives and cherishing the love and support of our families.
As we interacted with the residents, we were deeply moved by their resilience and determination to battle mental and physical health issues. Their blessings and appreciation touched our hearts, and we left with a renewed sense of empathy and compassion.
This Diwali celebration at old age homes was a poignant reminder of the importance of social responsibility, empathy, and kindness. We returned to school with unforgettable memories and a deeper understanding of the value of human connection.
