St. Kabir School is a setting where education and health programmers create a “Joyful and Happy” environment that promotes diversity in learning and evolving. Such an environment has the added advantage of promoting resilience in children and adolescents. It is possible that some people be more biologically predisposed towards being resilient. The uplifting part is that resilience is not a trait that people have or do not have – it involves thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and behaviours that can be learned and developed. We tend to idealize childhood as a carefree time, but youth alone offers no shield against hurts and traumas many children face. The ability to thrive despite these challenges arises from the skills of resilience. The good news is that resilience can be learned. However being resilient does not mean that children won’t experience difficulty or stress. Integrating the life skills and value education with the resiliency model serves as an effective process indicator to gradually study the outcomes. There are various types of resiliency interventions being done in school which can range from giving a prenatal care, ensuring healthy habits to promoting positive social connections.

In line with the same, an intriguing session on Mental Health and wellbeing was organised at St. Kabir, Navrangpura on 21st Sep. The session was delivered by our internal faculty Ms. Rashmi Dash. The session concentrated on one of the key issues of the modern world i.e. mental health and how as a teacher one can contribute to the society with early identification and helping parents to understand how the issue with child can be addressed amicably. The session received a very positive response with involved participation from all teachers through the various small group case studies. Another step from St. Kabir towards helping the society in creating more awareness towards this modern health problem which is little seen from outside and aiming to develop systems and culture which can counter it.
