St. Kabir School, Navrangpura branch received the Jury Appreciation Award – for being an active Swachhagraha School and creating a culture of cleanliness in Gujarat for the year 2017-18. The felicitation ceremony was held at H T Parekh Hall, Ahmedabad Management Association on 11th December, 2018. The Swachhagrah Prerak (teacher) received the certificate and a trophy at the hands of Shri Arun Mahesh Babu, the District Development Officer and Shri P N Roy Chowdhury, Executive Director, Adani Foundation.

In the year 2017-18, Navrangpura branch took up the project of Swachhagrah, as an initiative to bring awareness amongst the students and the community about keeping our self, our surroundings and our roads clean. Navrangpura team of dedicated teachers and enthusiastic students visited gardens like Parimal Garden, Prahladnagar Garden with nukkad natak on swachhagrah. At these venues, Kabirians took up surveys of around 350 people about their shopping habits, use of different dustbins to segregate waste and the habit of spitting on the roads. With support from teachers, students organized a rally shouting slogans on swachhata. The students took the job of cleaning up the surrounding areas in which teachers and a few parents also took part. Looking at this gesture of Kabrians, two boys in the garden volunteered to do the same, which was overwhelming.

Students also performed the skit and swachhagrah garba in school and PRL institution. Even all the van drivers were approached to convince them to stop eating gutka and avoid spitting on the road. The school toilets were regularly checked for cleanliness. Cleanest classes were appreciated in the assembly on monthly basis. Cloth bags were made by swachhagrahi parents and given to the maids of the school. There were many such activities done enthusiastically by the swachhagrahis. Throughout the duration of the project students’ excitement was noteworthy. Every task they were given was done with full heart in it. Not only the students but their parents too got involved in the project by extending their helping hands whenever needed.

At the end of this learning journey, a detailed documentation of different activities was submitted. Interesting videos were uploaded on youtube channel. Students made PowerPoint presentations and wrote the report and essays on the work they did. It is a matter of pride that one of the students Ms Aakanksha Savjani also received the award in the category – 10 best essays of Gujarat.
