The students and teachers of St Kabir School, Navrangpura, along with a few parents visited Lilapur gam, a remote village on the auspicious day of Gurupurnima. It was an initiative taken by our school to spread love and joy among the less privileged.
The students first visited the school where they were welcomed with tilak and gratitude chits on which different words like satya, truth, honesty etc. were written. The children of the school chanted prayers and meditated. Our students and teachers had planned a variety of events to entertain the students of the school. It started with sharing the importance of Guru Purnima and prayers followed by Nukkad Natak by the students on ‘Paryavaran Bachao’. Poems on the importance of trees were recited.
The preparation for this event had started a week before where the school had collected drawing books, stationary items like colour pencils, sketch pens and food items like biscuits, wafers and muffins for donating to the needy. The students interacted with the children and taught them how to draw. In order to spread awareness about the importance of trees, saplings were planted.
After the event the students went around the village where they got to see people happy even without electricity or the luxury of technology. The visit was an eye opener for everyone, where they discovered that, “there is more happiness in giving than receiving” and also to be grateful for what you have.
“Your life, no matter how bad you think it is, is someone else’s fairy tale”.
