A seasoned editor , Mr.Alok Sharma, from Times of India, was invited to St Kabir High School, Navrangpura branch on 7th of October , to conduct a session involving std 8 students on producing effective newspaper editorials, news , advertisements and the role of mass media.
This session at the school, was a second half bagless day activity , followed by a full flegded Navratri celebration in the first half of the day. The students were well informed in prior about the activity and the materials to be brought to design a newspaper of their choice.
The session aimed to equip the students with the skills to craft compelling well structured and impactful news headlines , front page structure, designing advertisement etc. The mentor also guided the students about the importance aspects like awareness, interests, desires , actions under the acronym- AIDA , while creating an ideal newspaper or exhibiting news on mass media.
In the era of digital media and the social media saturation, the importance of traditional newspaper journalism and the role of radio and television news broadcast are losing their charms ,hence becoming a challenged task.
Hence, this session proved to be a fruitful initiative taken up by the school to create high critical thinking and logical order, imbibing creativity, empowering self expression and community outreach.
The session concluded with the feedback given by the Asst Director of the school, Ms Rashmi Trivedi. The students also tried a hands on activity of crafting newspaper of their choices , keeping the guildlines received during the session.
